The Nursery Class is an integral part of our Infant
Department and the nursery children have full access to the facilities
enjoyed by all our pupils.
Close liaison exists with our Primary 1 teachers , and this will
be particularly important in assisting the children to transfer
to P1. |
In the summer term your child will be
given opportunities to meet his future teacher and see his classroom
for Primary 1. He/she will already have met the headteacher and
deputy headteacher throughout the session.
The headteacher will also hold an information meeting for the
parents of all newly enrolled children. |
|
| You can do the following things to help your
child's transition to P1: |
Help your
child at home. Home is
one of the most important learning environment. You can help
your child by: |
| • |
Reading to your child
regularly. |
| • |
Point out print eg at the shops,
in
the car, out for a walk, food labels. |
| • |
Teaching them nursery rhymes. |
| • |
Playing games. |
| • |
Encouraging drawing and colouring. |
| • |
Talk to them about all that goes
on around them. |
| • |
Enjoy sharing activities eg baking. |
|
Help your
child with the basics. Here
are some of the things that your child should be able to do
when he/she starts school: |
| • |
Undress and get dressed
after P.E. - make sure clothes selected for school are easy
to get on or off. |
| • |
Fasten shoes - if your child can't
tie laces then shoes with velcro fastenings might be a better
option! |
| • |
Use a knife and fork and eat lunch
without help. |
| • |
Share toys, take turns and tidy
up. |
| • |
Put on coat and gloves and hang
up items. |
| • |
Go to the toilet, flush and wash
afterwards. |
